One of my favorite holiday traditions growing up was New Year's Jack--or, Jack Frost. On New Year's Eve you set plates out on the table and Jack Frost comes in the night and leaves presents on the plates. As a kid this gave me one more thing to look forward to before heading back to school. Plus, none of my friends did it so it seemed extra special.
(I found these little dolls at the grocery store. There is a kayaker, surfer, bmx rider and snow skier. I love them.)

In the Huffaker house growing up, we would leave our shoes under the Christmas tree on New Year's Eve. Santa's elves would then come and fill them up with candy. That was cool, Bonnie and I do it now. The sneaky elves.
I think we did that once at our house. My mom must have got the idea from your mom- but it didn't stick. Sounds like a fun tradition.
Oh bummer - I was loving the holiday posts! Fun tradition - I wish we could've done it when I was little.
this was the first year new years jack didn't make an appearance at the conk home, my kids didn't even notice, that could be because we were at the sand dunes and they didn't even know it WAS new years!
we are totally stealing that tradition
