At Chloe's last visit to the dentist she was told that she had a loose tooth. She has been looking forward to losing a tooth for a L O N G time so this news made her very happy. Four months later her tooth finally fell out while wrestling on the trampoline with Stella.
Not long after she lost her tooth she lost her tooth.
She was heart-broken. She didn't care about the tooth but what the tooth could get her. So I told her we would leave a note for the tooth fairy explaining what happened. I started it, "Dear Tooth Fairy, My tooth fell out but I lost it." Chloe finished it, "Could you please just leave some money anyway?"
We put the note under her pillow and in her prayer she asked that what happened to Halle wouldn't happen to her. I asked what happened to Halle. "She left her tooth under her pillow but the tooth fairy never came!"
I would never be such a thought-less parent! Well, whu-do-ya-know, I went to bed without slipping the bill. Fred woke me up at 7 am and I remembered. I was heading up the stairs with the money just as Chloe was heading down with the note in her hand and a big frown on her face.
"Dumb tooth fairy."
I headed back to my room and slipped the dollar under my pillow. I thought maybe I would try to convince her that the tooth fairy got the pillows mixed up--I know, lame. But she had been looking forward to this for a year or more. I was desperate.
"Why did they even make a tooth fairy?" she asked. If she's not going to show up when needed then why even exist? (Seriously, why did they make a tooth fairy?)
Dan saved us, "Oh, I know why she didn't come--Its Sunday. The tooth fairy doesn't work on Sunday." Chloe said, "Oh." That made sense to her and she was able to get over her disappointment. And that night (after midnight, because the tooth fairy doesn't work on the sabbath) the tooth fairy redeemed herself with a little dollar bill origami.

Chloe is so funny. a whole dollar? The oragami ring makes me want to do a dollar too. Can't fold a quarter into anything fun. Call us if you need a place to stay for the bear lake brawl.
Very clever with the oragami dollar. I'm impressed, you had research references in your post!
There were many times that the tooth fairy came to our house in the afternoon. After all, she's really busy and sometimes her schedule is really full.
that story is awesome.
What a great story! The tooth fairy isn't terribly consistent at our house. Sometimes she is a few days late; hopefully my kids will just fire her (I wish!). Chloe is great and we miss her in Primary. PS - Alison Larsen want you to call her!
nice dan!!! awesome story - nice that you teach your kids about keeping the sabbath day holy!
I just told Tyler that chloe lost a tooth and showed him the picture- he wants to know what comes out of your hair when you loose a tooth!!!
(refer to the toothless picture of Chloe)
That dumb toothfairy keeps messing up at our house too! But we don't now any cool oragomi tricks so we have to just give more money--you'd think we'd learn.
Robbie and I were laughing so hard at this post...Chloe is so cute and hilarious! Dumb Tooth Fairy!!
I love that question, "Why did they even make a tooth fairy?" That's great! Nice save Dan.
And who are they?
You guys are the best parents! I want to be one of your kids...please, can I? Please, please, please, promise I'll be good. See, I already fit the role of child! That's a great story and one that Chloe will fully appreciate once she's older.
Hey, with all this tooth business going on, I thought I'd let you know that I feel some of your pain. Today, Lachlan fell off our barstool and broke his front tooth. His top two teeth smashed into his lower lip and that is where his tooth stuck. I pulled out this hard chunk from his lip and couldn't figure what it was until many many minutes later when the blood from his mouth and nose was all cleaned up. We now have a dental mishap just like you guys. I was thinking about you after the dust settled.
I know I say this all the time, but this really is one of my favorite posts of yours. I LOVE Chloe's honest, yet hilarious comments. Like I commented on Shana's blog, "that dumb tooth fairy" forgot to come to our house SO MANY times, but our kids seem to be functioning well in their teenage years so it will all work out. Great story that she'll look back on with fond memories forever! Love it. Looks like you guys are doing well.
That's hilarious! Our daughter lost her tooth in our shag rug shortly after it fell out, and we had to do the whole 'note to the tooth fairy explaining the situation' thing too. Fortunately, we also let her know that the Tooth Fairy is VERY busy, and sometimes takes up to three nights to finally show up. :) Hey, I don't get much sleep- gotta cover for 'mommy brain!'
